The River Touyre encircles this pastoral 18th century chateau in Midi-Pyrénées, where the old and new commingle. The owners, Nico and Rachel, have lovingly restored the two wings to both honour the ancient stone walls and spoil guests with modern comforts. The children can stay all together in the 15 person dorm room (with a ping pong table for good measure), while adults will adore the quiet peace of the grounds and their private rooms, simply decorated with antiques.
Outside you’ll find a romantic chapel, the frescoes of the past crumbling slowly away. The 22 acres of private grounds, with stone stairs and terraced gardens winding down toward the river look divine. Have meals on the terrace by the infinity pool, or ask the on-site concierge where to go for the region’s rich and warming foods, like foie gras or aligot.
Located only 30 km from the Carcassonne airport, your guests will arrive with no trouble. A 10 minute drive will take you from your family chateau to Mirepoix, where the town square, Place des Couverts, is not to be missed.
